Our Low Toxin Chocolate Picks

We shared on our social media accounts in January the unfortunate news that chocolate can be very toxic for us to consume.  (We get it...we're sad too!)

Why? Cocoa beans absorb heavy metals like lead and cadmium from the soil and during processing. While some chocolate contains concerning levels of heavy metals, there are some safer options that still contain some heavy metals but at a much lower level.

These are 5 options that are low in toxins that are easy to find:

  • Ghirardelli Intense Dark (86% Cacao)

  • Ghirardelli Intense Dark Chocolate Twilight Delight (72% Cacao) *slightly milder dark chocolate experience

  • Valrhona Abinao Dark Chocolate (85% Cacao)

  • Sam's Choice (Walmart) Dark Chocolate (85% Cocoa)

  • Lindt Classic Recipe Milk Chocolate

We love picking up chocolate from the New London Food Co-op  as they carry numerous low toxin chocolate options as well!

Save this information so you can refer back to it next time you find yourself looking for a delicious chocolate bar to enjoy!
